It is based on the short story "3BHK Veedu" by Aravindh Sachidanandam.

The film stars Siddharth as Prabhu Vasudevan.

"3BHK" tells the story of a middle-class family's decades-long struggle to own a home in the city.

The film follows the Vasudevan family: Vasudevan (Sarathkumar), an accountant; his wife Shanthi (Devayani); their son Prabhu (Siddharth); and daughter Aarthi (Meetha Raghunath).

For Vasudevan, owning a house is not only a place to live but also a symbol of respect, security, and family identity.

From the early 2000s, the family saves every penny while moving from one rented house to another, focused on buying their own 3BHK apartment.

The family faces repeated setbacks and financial challenges. Each time they approach saving enough for a down payment, new difficulties derail their plans.
